GRAND HAVEN — A new housing development could be coming to the Grand Haven’s south side.

South Village is expected to offer a mix of row-houses, townhomes, traditional condominiums, and attached single-family homes on 23.3 acres of industrial brownfield land.

Developers are looking into designating a portion of the units as “affordable housing,” which could make the project eligible for brownfield grant dollars. Although the idea is still in the exploratory stage, City Planner Brian Urquhart said they will likely make up about 10 percent of the units.

IMD Capital, the firm attached to the project, officially submitted a preliminary development plan to the city and requested to rezone the property from transitional industrial to planned development.

A public hearing to approve the preliminary plan could take place at the planning commission’s next meeting April 15. If approved, the plan would next go to Grand Haven City Council.
