In these early days of Trump II, we must be vigilant and stand up to threats to our democratic institutions and processes.
Religion must illuminate the economic structure of society and address its inequalities and not blind us to those inequalities.
We become the people we think others see us to be.
Trust must be earned. And credibility should never be sold.
I would guess there is not a pastor here in West Michigan, in all denominations and in all religions, who would not agree with this statement: religious decline, called secularization, has contributed to a rise in mental illness. Sigmund Freud made such an observation more than a hundred years ago.
We in West Michigan are blessed by the presence of two noted institutions of Higher Education: Hope College here in Holland, and Calvin University in Grand Rapids.
